Uniform Policy

The dress code and uniform policy are designed to reflect the dignity of the body and the modesty taught by our Catholic tradition. Uniforms enhance a sense of school pride and belonging, while encouraging discipline and eliminating unnecessary distractions.

General Points

  • All clothing must be neat, clean, and in good repair. Neatness and cleanliness are expected at all times.
  • Uniform shirts must be tucked in and buttoned completely with the exception of the top button.
  • You are not required to purchase every item. Order the items that best fit your child’s needs while adhering to the dress code and uniform policy.
  • All St. Jude of the Lake School faculty and staff have the right to enforce all and any part of the uniform policy and dress code.
  • The uniform policy is in effect during school days with the exception of out-of-uniform days.
  • The dress code is always in effect, even during out-of-uniform days.

Girls & Boys Shoes K–8

  • Both tennis shoes and black or brown dress shoes are allowed. All students must have athletic shoes to wear on days when they gym class.
  • Solid white, black, or navy socks and tights only.
  • Sandals, flip-flops, boots, fashion, open-toe or open-backed shoes are not allowed, including on out-of-uniform days.

Girls K–5 Uniform

  • Plaid drop waist jumper (K–5)
  • Plaid side kick pleated skort and 2 pleat skort (K–5)
  • Navy pants or shorts, flat or pleated front
  • White Peter Pan collar blouses, short or long sleeve (K–2)
  • Blue uniform school logo polo shirt (long or short-sleeve)
  • Navy uniform quarter-zip sweatshirt (with school logo)
  • Navy cardigan sweater (school logo optional)
  • Solid black or brown belt (optional)

Boys K–5 Uniform

  • Navy pants or shorts, flat or pleated front
  • Blue uniform school logo polo shirt (long or short- sleeve)
  • Navy uniform quarter-zip sweatshirt (with school logo)
  • Navy cardigan sweater (school logo optional)
  • Solid black or brown belt

Girls 6–8 Uniform

  • Navy skort
  • Navy pants or shorts (shorts may be worn year-round) Two styles: flat or pleated front
  • Blue uniform school logo polo shirt (long or short-sleeve)
  • Navy uniform quarter-zip sweatshirt (with school logo)
  • Navy cardigan sweater (school logo optional)

Boys 6–8 Uniform

  • Donald’s Uniform is the official uniform provider for St. Jude of the Lake Catholic School. They offer free shipping to the school. You can visit their online store or contact Donald’s Uniform at 651-776-2723 for more information and store hours.
  • Heritage Embroidery & Design offers additional spirit wear items which may be worn on designated spirit wear days each month as well as outside of school hours.  You can visit their online store at hedusa.com or contact Heritage Embroidery & Design at 651-430-9220 for more info and store hours.
  • St. Jude of the Lake also offers the Laker Lender, a gently-used uniform exchange offering most uniform items. This is located in the school and is available during school business hours. Contact the school office for more information.

Dress Code

  • The length of skirts, shorts, and skorts are to be no more than 2 inches above the knee.
  • Hair extensions or feathers are not permitted.
  • Hairstyles and haircuts must not be dramatic or distracting; no unnatural colors allowed.
  • Boys’ hair must be above the shirt collar and hair on the forehead must be at or above the eyebrows.
  • Body piercing must be in the ear not be distracting to the learner or academic experience.
  • No visible tattoos, stickers, or body art. Students are not to write on themselves or others without a teacher’s permission.
  • Neutral nail polish can be worn on natural nails. No artificial nails. Polish may not be brought to or applied at school.
  • No make-up of any kind.
  • Undershirts are to be white or free of visible graphics or lettering and should not hang below the sleeve.
  • Sunglasses are not to be worn inside the building unless prior permission has been given.
  • Headbands and hair accessories may not be disruptive to the learning process.
  • Socks need to be worn by all students.
  • Students may be asked to remove any distraction as deemed by the principal.

Miscellaneous Points

  • Shorts may be worn year round.
  • Only school approved sweatshirts and fleece jackets may be worn in the classroom or in church during school hours.
  • Wearing a t-shirt under the uniform shirt for warmth is acceptable if it is not visible.
  • Knit shorts, knit tights, or leggings must be worn under jumpers, skirts, or skorts without a built-in short.
  • Tights or leggings may not be worn alone as bottoms without a skirt or skort.
  • Students must wear tennis shoes to participate in gym class.
  • Middle school students are allowed to wear the middle school sweatshirt as a part of their uniform.
  • Middle school students wear House t-shirts on Fridays. These are provided to new middle school students on Back to School Night.
